Contract Lifting and CPA Hire ... What's the difference?
As we offer both CPA Hire and Contract Lifting we're often asked what the difference is so we thought it a good idea to put a brief outline here. However, if you have any questions at all about either please contact us and we'll be happy top help
Straightforward ‘hire’ is where you take on the major legal liability for ensuring that lifting operations are planned and carried out safely and a 'Contract Lift' is where we relieve you of that responsibility, provided that you have satisfied yourselves that we are competent and have a good safety record.
In a Hire arrangement the plant and operator will work to your instructions as the client. You plan the lift, select the suitable plant, specify the slinging and signalling arrangements, supervise the lift and be responsible for the entire lifting operation.
When the plant arrives at your lift location the operator should not start the lifting operation until he has seen the lift plan and discussed it with your supervisor. The competent person has the responsibility for ensuring the lift plan is adequate but the operator will need to be satisfied that it covers all the necessary elements. This should not be interpreted as the operator taking responsibility for the planning. In a similar manner, if a representative from our company visits the site to gather information for the rigging of the lift equipment or to assist you in the selection of the equipment then this should not be interpreted as taking responsibility for planning the overall lifting operation.
In a Contract Lift we will plan the lift, select the most appropriate equipment, specify the slinging and signalling arrangements, supervise the lift and take responsibility for the entire lifting operation.CPA Hire is where you hire the lift equipment and operator under CPA model conditions and your personnel do the planning, control and supervision yourselves, or Contract Lifting where Projector Lifting Service Ltd supply not only the equipment and operator, but also the personnel who do the planning, control and supervision. In both cases you as the customer have the legal responsibility for Health and Safety, which cannot be abdicated, but in the case of a Contract Lift, Projector can take on more of the legal liabilities, and offer greater protection under our own insurance cover.
